portfolio | cacao ngon book

This is my Cacao Ngon book that I did in the fall and winter terms of 2008. It goes along with the other Cacao Ngon post I posted a few days ago. It features a couple pages from the book. The book is about Farmer Sam and how he developed his company, Cacao Ngon. It is a lot like a children’s book because of its simplicity and content yet it is effective. GreenSpaces case study was a term long project that we worked on. I developed the company’s logo, branding, a brochure, advertisements, and a promotional item. The business is a non profit organization that teaches and gives people resources to grow their own vegetables. It was a long process and I learned a lot about how much goes into corporate identity. It was also important to keep everything cohesive.

The Cacao Ngon case study project was a lot of fun. Vietnam was my country and I developed a company called Cacao Ngon, they are a cocoa growing/chocolate company. The product I chose were little cocoa and flavored cubes that melt in tea or coffee. I created their logo and packaging for their treats. I also made a book with the BookSmart application and sent it off to print. The book featured a story about a farmer Sam, the owner of Cacao Ngon. It is a short story about how he started his business.

This is a prototype magazine for craigslist.com called Peace Out. It was a very fun project. We could take any direction we wanted. I chose to make my magazine fun and crazy, emphasizing the outrageous stuff and people you find on craigslist. I used a lot of bright colors and interesting fonts.

portfolio | ALICIA: My Story | book cover

ALICIA: My Story book cover redesign was a lot of fun. This is actually my latest version of the cover. My first design was done in January of 2008. The older design was very flat and used an analogous color scheme. It was pretty boring. The project requirements restricted the use of color to just one scheme so there you go. I got the star of david from a picture my friend let me use from Germany when she went there last year. It was on a fence in the photo so I decided to use it as a texture in the background of the cover. I did a lot of photoshop work on it, cut it up in different pieces so it does not look too much like a fence, then toned down the opacity and wa la I think it adds depth and character to the background. The star of david, I made it a little more gold in color than it was in the photo. Here is my portfolio page for this project.

 

ALICIA: My Story

This project is a catalog for zappos.com primarily for bridesmaid’s shoes. I enjoyed creating this design because I wanted to make it elegant yet modern at the same time. I did the illustration of cherry blossoms. I put them in no particular pattern. I used a serif for main headings and a sans serif for shoe descriptions to balance it out and modern. Here is a spread from my portfolio.

portfolio| Mt. Hood Jazz Band and Combo| CD package design

This piece was so much fun to design. I helped the photographers at the photo shoot and sat in at one of the band’s practices. That really inspired me and got my creative juices flowing. I explored with new fonts I have not used before and really jumped out of my limits. The jazz band was our client for this project and the director came in and we presented our designs to her. This is the page directly from my portfolio.

For most of you that don’t know me, I am 2 weeks from graduating college at Mt. Hood Community College. I am in the Integrated Media: Graphic Design program, I will graduate with an Associates of Applied Science Degree. During these final weeks we have been working rigorously at completing a portfolio. A portfolio that will be presented at the portfolio show on June 5th and essentially we need one anyway when we want to go out and look for internships or jobs. This process has been amazing, a little difficult, but totally worth it! 

Throughout the next week I will be posting projects and actual jpegs of my portfolio pages to get my work out into the world! Also, if you would like to comment with rants or raves it would be much appreciated.
